THEORIES
THEORY ONE: PERTAINING TO THE BLIMP IN THE CORNER OF THE GRIM GROTTO ILLUSTRATION Supposedly, this indicates that the Quaqmires will be back in the next book, along with Hector, whom we now know to be a member of VFD. To add credence to this theory, the letters, 'VFD' were hidden in the end credits of the Lemony Snciket movie. Guess what they were hidden in? That's right! Blimps!
THEORY TWO: PERTAINING TO ILLUSTRATION AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FIRST BOOK.
The firefighter on the right appears to have a forked tounge. This could be one of the trained reptiles Count Olaf referenced in 'The Slippery Slope'. Also, the fact that the first illustrationis of firefighters practically gave us the meanign of VFD. It was just the fact that no one believed their eyes.
THEORY THREE: RELATING TO THE TEASER COVER FOR BOOK THE TWELFTH
The teaser cover for The Grim Grotto said, 'Art too Depressing to Show,' and walking through a dark watery tunnel has to be depressing, while the teaser for the Twelfth book is desribed as 'Too Awful to Show'.
There is a difference between the words, 'depressing' and 'awful.'
Since the Twelfth cover art is described as 'Awful,' we can safely assume something dreadful will happen, as opposed to something that is just 'depressing.' Our guess is that there will be another terrible fire, and someone will die.
THEORY FOUR: THE THIRTEENTH BOOK WILL BE CALLED 'THE DEADLY DENOUMENT'.
This theory makes perfect sense. The first book in the series was called, 'The Bad Beginning'. 'Denoument' is a literary term used to describe the culmination of events and the revealing of all that there is to reveal. So the titles would correspond very well.

RUMOR ONE: THE NEXT BOOK IS COMING OUT IN APRIL OR MAY OF 2005
There is a website that claims The _________ (book the twelfth) is coming out in May/April of next year.

RUMOR TWO: THE TITLE OF BOOK THE TWELFTH BOOK IS 'THE ZYMOLOGY ZONE'.
No evidence to support this theory.
RUMOR THREE: THE TWELFTH BOOK WILL BE CALLED 'THE DEADLY DENOUMENT'.
The fact that the most obvious clue in the ending illustration is a hat that says, 'Hotel D' is the only real lead we have. Also, the Buads are traveling there, but that does not mean they will arrive by the next book. (It took them a whole book to get up a mountain, imagine going on a car trip! :) )
